Day 9

Day 9

Read: Luke 18:1
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart.

Reflect: Our hearts are funny and fickle. They chase after so many worthless things and when they do decide to do good, to be generous and loving, we often grow weary of doing good. Thankfully when we turn away from the Lord the same thing often happens with our hearts, they grow weary of doing bad and we come home. But the truth is our hearts run from one thing to the next looking for comfort, security, fun, excitement and pleasure. For people to be touched by God others must pray. We see that principle in full force at Pentecost. Jesus sent His followers to prayer and they prayed and waited, and prayed and waited. For days. Acts 1:14 tells us, “They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” This went on for likely upwards of 10 days! It is easy to lose heart when we pray. To just give up and surrender to our reality that says, “He’s not coming or He would have already arrived.” But Jesus goes on in this parable or story to tell us of a woman, a widow who comes to a judge and asks for protection but the judge doesn’t care about the woman so he does nothing for her. Yet after her persistence begins to take a toll he finally says to himself, “Because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, lest by continually coming she wear me out.” Jesus said this, don’t give up, don’t lose heart when you pray. Stay in even when everything and everybody says give up.

So how long should you pray for something? The answer is quite simple. Pray and keep believing until it happens or until God gives you the assurance He has heard your cry and you can stop. That is the only way you will know it is time to stop. Otherwise keep praying. Scripture is clear that hell hates for us to pray and Satan works overtime to thwart our prayers so don’t give up! Press in and believe beyond. Intercession is a powerful weapon against hell and the work of the enemy so keep praying and don’t lose heart.

Prayer:
Father, teach me to persist in prayer and not lose heart. Holy Spirit, empower me and raise my faith level so even when I cannot see answers to my prayers I don’t lose faith.
