Read: Luke 22:32
I have prayed for you… that your faith may not fail.
Reflect: Jesus prays for us! For some of us that is truly difficult to imagine. He stands with us when we cannot stand. Often when things are going well, we stand on our own power thinking we’ve got this and without realizing it we leave God out of the equation. But when we cannot stand most of us run to Him. We might run out of weakness and fear, but still He never turns us away. When we have a friend who really gets our journey, one who will stand with us, it makes all the difference in the world. Jesus is more than a friend, He is God! And He stands with us even when we cannot stand. Even when we fall.
When He told His followers, His disciples, that He prayed for them He understood more than they, that they were human and prone to fail and fall. So, He prayed that in the fire their faith would hold fast. This prayer was specifically targeting Peter and we all know Peter had issues. He was hard headed and sometimes over confident, not in God, but in Peter. Then He would fail and Jesus was always there to pick him up. This is what makes Jesus so amazing. He knows more about my weaknesses than I do and they don’t scare Him off or even put Him off.
More than that He prays for me just as He prayed for His disciples.
“Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” – Romans 8:34
One of our greatest struggles is to overcome shame and the deep sense of failure when we fall. Remember Peter was just like us and Jesus was crazy about old Pete. He prayed for Peter and He prays for us. He loved Peter with all of his faults and He loves us the same. Jesus prays for us today interceding for us, believing for us, just as He did for Peter.
Hebrews 7:25 tells us; “Therefore, He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
He lives to pray for us! He is indeed a strong tower, a refuge to run into when we are hurting or have fallen. Don’t run away, run to Him the one who lives to pray for you!
Jesus, you are beyond amazing. Your love for us is still as hot and on fire as it was for Peter. Remind me never to run from you but to always run to you. I hunger to get this God. I want to know that you have me covered every day in prayer. Please Holy Spirit, reveal the Father’s deep love for me to me today. Teach me to pray for others, Jesus, like you pray for me.
