Day 12

Day 12

Read: Matthew 6:10
Pray like this…“Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”

Reflect: When Jesus was asked by His followers to teach them to pray He began with “Our Father” but then He quickly moved on to “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Wow what a leap. From intimate relationship to massive authority. For God’s will to be done on earth there must be a huge battle because earth is the realm of Satan. He was cast down from Heaven to earth and he has real and deep authority here. In Luke 4:5-7, Satan talks about his spiritual authority when speaking to Jesus. “I will give you all authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.

When Jesus said to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven He was contrasting Heavens wonderful possibilities with what we know takes place on earth. He was also saying that praying makes earth a lot more like Heaven. So, pray, pray for His Kingdom to come here to our homes and lives. His Kingdom has to do with His rule. Kings rule and Kingdoms are the places they rule over. Jesus is asking us to pray for His authority to replace Satan’s authority here and now, in our journey today, in real and tangible ways.

Our prayers can make a huge difference in marriages, in children’s lives, in broken hearts and war-ravaged countries. So, pray and pray believing He will come and His will would be done to heal and restore, to renew and rebuild what hell has torn down. Our decisions to pray can do this. Our prayers impact eternity for countless other people; those you know and can see and those you may never meet.

Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to overcome all the power of the enemy.” There is no question about whether or not we can win this war, the question is will we pray? And will we pray specifically and intentionally for His will to be done in circumstances and situations that desperately need His touch.

This type of prayer is really only effective if the Holy Spirit leads the way, so stop and pray, wait and listen for His voice. Open the Word of God and believe He will show up today in your prayer life as He did in the early church.

Acts 13:2-4, “While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”

Father, move in me today as you moved in the early church. Holy Spirit, I believe you have given me authority to bring the Kingdom of God to situations and circumstances I could never change. So, move in me and through me as I pray.
